Review of The Devil's Rejects (2005) by Alex R — 08 Jun 2010
For me, The Devil's Rejects remains one of the greatest horror films of the first decade of the 21st Century. Rob Zombie creates a totally new beast of a film by following up House Of A 1000 Corpses with this very solid and impressive sequel.
In this film, the fireflies are on the run from the law, and leave a trail of bodies in their path. The Devil's Rejects is a solid, depraved and more importantly raw picture. The film is very brutal, but at times, there are a few comical moments to relieve the tension.
Zombie has greatly improved as a director and he's successfully created a new breed of horror film, a film that challenges you not to look away, a film so raw, so gritty that by the end of the film you ask yourself, what did I just see? I can answer that for you, you just saw something bold, and original, you saw the work of a director who's not afraid to try something new.
The Devil's Rejects is a fine film, if you look beneath it's violence. It's superbly crafted film with a great cast of actors and a terrific script. This is one of my favourite films, and I can honestly say that in a time where the horror remake is king, The Devil's Rejects is safe and sound as one helluva horror picture, and will definitely terrify for years to come, long after awful remakes have been dethroned.
A superb film.
