Review of The Edge of Seventeen (2016) by Heidi C — 25 Nov 2016
The film immediately starts off on the wrong foot with a predictable and formulaic introduction. It quickly devolves into a self righteous snooze fest as we watch our main character navigate through sloppy writing and b-movie acting from the supporting cast.
Woody Harrelson was totally underused and wasted. His character was very poorly developed and he felt like an afterthought while his talents would suggest him at the forefront. Hailee Steinfeld does show once again that she is a star.
She is the only redeeming quality to the film, delivering a performance deserving of a much better film. Overall, this felt made for a focus group, not for the art of filmmaking.
