Conversely to Houellebecq's book, the film adaptation does not depict clearly how the feelings and actions emerge from one another, and this, in fact, is one of the key aspects to grasp it. besides, the happy end does not overlap with the book's ending which again was much stronger.
conclusion: read the book, skip the movie.
