Review of The End of the Tour (2015) by David S — 13 Aug 2015
Whenever I finish watching a movie -- at a theater -- I have this intuitive conviction to rush out. But that, ultimately, wasn't the case for The End of the Tour. Of course, as a revering fanatic of Wallace, I knew I'd be absolutely infatuated with the film.
But -- on a personal yet aesthetic level -- I found the film to be consummately enduring. As one film critic stated, "Jason Segel is a revelation." And let me tell you, that critic was right on.
It's not that Jesse Eisenberg's character (David Lipsky) isn't satisfactory, because they are essentially cohesive. Lipsky precisely evokes Wallace's true beauty and insecurities; and I think that's astonishing.
Between the themes of existential angst, philosophical indifferences, and silly quirks The End of the Tour proves to be a staple in the upcoming Oscar race.
