Review of The Equalizer 3 (2023) by Jluis_001 — 03 Sep 2023
In what turned out to be an improbable trilogy, Denzel Washington reprises his role as Robert McCall in a third story in which the actor's age has become quite evident and therefore feels like a more leisurely film when it comes to the action.
Although The Equalizer 3 feels more violent than its predecessors, it also offers less violence than its predecessors. It takes nearly an hour before McCall starts taking names and kicking ass.
Impressively the threat he faces in this installment is supposed to be a massive mafia with enormous resources to pursue him and yet it all comes down to two confrontations in the entire film.
The climax feels so rushed that it barely gives you time to process it, and once it's all over, I couldn't help but wonder where the poignant emotional depth that this final chapter was supposed to bring to the character had disappeared to.
Yes, perhaps it's an ending, but it doesn't provide any real closure.
