Review of The Fate of the Furious (2017) by Movie K — 31 May 2017
Part 8 of the franchise. This is the one without Paul Walker. Plenty of insane action which is enjoyable. Movie start in Cuba with Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez enjoying life there. Vin cousin can't repay the car debt and the gangster repossess his car.
Vin challenge him to a race with the slow trash car. Vin did some tuning and manage to win by a whisker. However he didn't take the guy's car since he respect Vin after the race. Vin give his Chevy Impala to the cousin.
Charlize Theron mysteriously appeared and want Vin to work for her. He is shock after seeing a video. Dwayne Johnson is happily coaching his daughter football team when he is needed to do a black ops in Berlin to seize an EMP.
So he call Vin and gang for the job. After the task, Vin knock Dwayne car over and steal the EMP. Dwayne is caught and send to same maximum security prison as Jason Statham. Kurt Russell and his new protege Scott Eastwood try to buy Dwayne with their condition but he refuse.
Dwayne and Jason don't see eye to eye right off. The prison system goes bad and all inmates escape. The duo fight their way out but it is all plan by Kurt, who recruited them and the others for a secret ops - to track down Charlize and Vin.
Jason know her because she try to recruit him for a job but he refuse. So she find her brother Luke Evans instead (Fast 6). Jason vow revenge on her for abandoning Luke after he is caught. They don't want to work with Jason for the Fast 7 event but has no choice.
While trying to use Gods Eye to track Vin, the signal end up at their secret location. Charlize and Vin attack their base and easily cripple them all and steal Gods Eye. Charlize base is up in an airplane with advance technology.
She caught Elsa Pataky and son as hostage. It is Vin son which he didn't know of because Michelle returned from the dead so she didn't inform. Vin pretend his car got problem and drive into an alley which have no camera view.
He slip away to meet Helen Mirren for some dealing. The Russian defense minister is in town and with a briefcase of launch code. Vin is task to get it. Charlize work her magic and hack all self driven car become "zombie" and crash the traffic.
The gang try to stop him but Vin car horsepower is so powerful all their cars equip with cable hook can't contain him. Vin run away and shot Jason dead. Michelle took the briefcase and Kristofer Hivju want to kill her but Vin stop him.
They run check on Kristofer and knows him, begin to trace him. Charlize is upset Vin didn't exactly comply with her although the launch code is obtain. To teach him a lesson, Kristofer kill Elsa. Kurt manage to find out a ice cover submarine base of Russia was attack by terrorist and it could be the next point for her to reach.
Vin drive his car and use the EMP to cripple the system and submarine. But Dwayne and all are there to stop him. Nathalie Emmanuel try to stop the sub but Charlize is a better hacker. Ludacris, Tyrese and Scott go into the sub and took out the chip for missile launch.
The baddies chase after them. Meanwhile, Jason and Luke with jet pack attack Charlize airplane and save the baby. Kristofer want to snipe shot Michelle. Vin got a call from Jason for the all clear and he get down to kill Kristofer.
Charlize launch heat seeking missile to kill them all. Vin distract with his heat exhaust and route back to the sub and the missile blows it up. The others quickly drive back and shield Vin from the blast.
Jason nearly kill Charlize when she open the hatch and jump out with parachute. It is then reveal the van that block Vin at the back alley is the gangster from Cuba. The bullets killing Jason is fake.
Helen revive him in the ambulance and want him to help Vin along with his brother Luke. Finally all of them gather for celebration. Dwayne is reinstate but he decide to take a break and be with his daughter.
Vin name the son "Brian" to tribute to Paul Walker character name.
