Review of The Final Countdown (1980) by William W — 29 Aug 2011
Not only is the plot line ridiculous but the characters are so hollow that you don't even feel bad for one of the B List characters whose fate is to be left behind in 1941. Portions of the film are enjoyable at times for the sheer improbability of the situation, for instance, two F-14 Tomcats dog fighting a pair of Japanese Mitsubishi "Zeroes.
" The ending is pathetic, right at the critical moral moment for characters and the ship, attack the Japanese or let them attack Pearl Harbor, the ship for no reasons whatsoever travels back to 1980, effectively dodging that whole sticky business of having a point.
