Review of The Frozen Ground (2013) by Zach R — 16 Aug 2013
I don't know if I have found more disturbing the serial killer story or John Cusack playing the bad guy.
The movie is based on a true story that happened in Alaska in the early '80 when detective Jack Halcombe tried to convict serial killer suspect Robert Hansen for the savaged murders of several women.
One of the victim manages to escape and this is how the "hunt for the hunter "begins.
While Nicholas Cage plays once again Nicholas Cage in the attempt to impersonate the detective (failing in getting the audience involved in his personal struggle) a true revelation is John Cusack as the serial killer: for once moving out of his comfort zone made of romantic loser roles in chick flicks, Cusack is scarily convincing as Hansen, a law abiding citizen with a religious family and trusted by the community but with a deadly hobby.
The movie is a sort of Alaskan "Zodiac", only 10 years later and an hour shorter, we know from the beginning who the murderer is but it's almost impossible to find enough evidence to nail him.
Intriguing, with a grey and cold setting and creepy at every corner, it will make your sleep uneasy ....at least for half an hour.
My vote 7/10.
