Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Robin%20 C — 03 Jan 2018
Almost as good as the first, but I never found this as good. Maybe because De Niro isn't as good as Brando or because Duvall and Caan weren't as good. And, I liked the supporting cast better in the first than in this one, but both casts were still phenomenal.
But, Pacino, Cazale, Keaton, and Shire were a lot better in this movie. You could see the fury in Michael, the fear in Fredo, the hurt in Kay, and the mischief and hate in Connie. The cinematography was beautiful, the story was phenomenal, many scenes were memorable, and the soundtrack was still amazing.
When Michael realizes that Fredo betrays him, the music and Pacino's facial expressions could show how much that had hurt him. Just like the first movie, you cared about every character. Not as good as The Godfather, but it's one of the greatest movies, and the second best in the trilogy.
