Review of The Godfather Part II (1974) by Andrew B — 03 Dec 2015
The Godfather Part II is a true sequel in that the first two films feel more like one (incredibly long), story than two seperate ones. While the first focussed on Michael Corleone's rise to the top of the Coreleone family, Part II takes a look and his moral downfall, as his lifestyle, decisions and ego push away those precious to him.
The film also acts as a prequel, telling the story of Vito Corleone's arrival in the United States, and how he came to be a powerful mob boss. Although the film does feel long, being over three hours long, there's not an inch wasted and if anything, it is superior to its predecessor.
