Review of The Good Dinosaur (2015) by Llamayarmybar — 14 Aug 2016
Underdeveloped plot, underdeveloped characters, underdeveloped villains and motivations for villains. This movie blows and not in a healthy way. The characters are paper thin and boring, the sets, sequences and scenery all look amazing, but the characters all look like balloon animals in terms of artistic design.
The art style for these characters looks beyond terrible, its almost blatantly obvious that they were designed by committee rather than by anyone with actual vision. The music swells, but scenes fall flat with almost no emotional levity.
You almost feel frustrated to see this shallow "good dinosaur" keep making mistake after mistake and running away from EVERY CONFRONTATION in the entire film. This is supposed to be character building cinema right? Something positive for kids to admire or look up to? The main protagonist is a whiny, pathetic runt of a dinosaur that gets his own father killed, almost gets killed himself multiple times, almost gets his friend killed and by the end of it he just happens to learn the most important thing in the whole film- NEVER LEAVE HOME AGAIN.
This is an embarrassing release by Pixar. It shows that not only do they not respect their audiences, but that they are perfectly content writing bad children's films rather than films that have a lasting appeal to young and old.
All style and no substance gets you nowhere Pixar.
