Review of The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965) by Brian S — 05 May 2009
What an amazingly uninteresting epic. even in almost 3 1/2 hours, the characters remain flat and virtually void of personality. creative liberties are plentiful in combining and slightly altering various story elements, and the writing--in its attempt to be reverent and scripturally accurate--somehow comes across as contemporary and almost cheesy.
I was also surprised how distracting elements like Jesus' big blue eyes and the blatantly Western American landscape really were. it's not the worst Jesus story I've ever seen, but George Stevens really did miss the mark.
