Review of The Green Knight (2021) by Nickthecritick — 18 Apr 2022
The plot is the simplest: On Christmas morning, Gawain dreams of being knighted by the elderly King Arthur. Encouraged by his mother Morgana to attend the reception at the court of Camelot, the dissolute young man witnesses the arrival of the mysterious and imposing Green Knight, who tests the court. Gawain offers to take up his challenge and therefore can hit him first, but a year later he will have to go to a remote church to receive the blow back. Gawain beheads the creature, but it takes its head back and repeats its prophecy, which now sounds like a death sentence. The boy is knighted and passes a year of wicked pleasures, but the new Christmas is approaching.
This film is the best chivalrous epic film I have ever seen and undoubtedly one of the best films of recent years. The best one by Lowery.
