Review of The Groove Tube (1974) by Matthew D — 02 Jul 2012
A hopeless mess of disjointed skits and confusing writing; and an execution style that borders on dadaism. This type of subversive satire was done much better by The Kentucky Fried Movie. This film will forever be tied to an era where the special effects budget of a film could be miniscule, but the cocaine budget could be astronomical.
All in all, The Groove Tube comes off as a film school experiment where most of the shooting schedule was spent consuming illegal substances and fiddling around with the script and camera just to see what sticks.
