Review of The Grudge (2004) by Brendan N — 19 Nov 2017
I watched this in the cinema and had a better memory of this film but with age it has lost some of its edge. The script is only going from scare a to scare b with a disappointing script along the way. The film has atmosphere to keep the film on course but what is lacking are strong characters or meaning.
There could've been a film to be a classic instead of a by the numbers horror film for that year. The biggest problem is gapping holes in the supernatural logic, it doesn't make a lot of sense the more you look into the storyline.
Gellar is quite good in the lead but she never has a lot to work with, the non linear plot is a great choice but not one character has development. The films music score is very uninspired and lacks anything to help build tension, it sounds like a day time thriller.
