Review of The Gunman (2015) by Jenn M — 29 Dec 2015
I expected better from Sean Penn really, thought the plot would have been a little more twisted, a little more complex, but it really wasn't. essentially it was a C+ version of what could have been a really good film if it had gone through a few more writings and some better casting.
My issue was that the plot and subplot importance was reversed. What should have only been a secondary facet (the love story) overshadowed the political plot line which essentially was the main issue in the plot but was made to be almost meaningless. an hour and a half into it I was suddenly reminded that holy cow, there was a mining minister involved, oh yeah, I completely forgot since the whole thing so far was bitter arguments about a psst life together and being betrayed. Yawn.
