Review of The Happytime Murders (2018) by Ben D — 26 Aug 2018
It's always a bummer when the best scenes are in the preview, which was true for this movie. Only a few big laughs were to be had unless you're in to bad puppet puns. I thought Melissa and Maya had great chemistry in their limited scenes together and brought some of the most dynamic humor without much effort.
The rest of the film seems to take a lot of effort without a lot of payoff. They actually were too conservative with the silliness one would expect in a world full of puppets. While I don't think it's a waste of time as it leaves you with some good one-liners you may find yourself quoting afterwords and enough story to keep you interested in the sometime too long gaps between laughs.
