Review of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 2 (2015) by Carlotta 4 — 27 Nov 2016
Not, perhaps, the best finale for what was a very a great series. It's not actively bad and the parts are well acted and shot, to be sure--it's just that the plot and scenarios feel contrived whereas in the last films they felt organic and necessary.
Even one of the most important parts of the film wasn't handled the best--I read the book and was STILL confused as to how Prim got there because in the film she just... pops up, inexplicably. It feels so contrived for plot purposes, I wish they had just made it make sense because it's such an important character moment for our protagonist and should have been the cherry on top of all the misery our characters have gone through.
I suppose my last nitpick for it would be the ending portion as well. Time skips are so rarely handled gracefully, and while I understand the book did it I do wish the movie had left this portion out and done something to convey the same feeling instead.
So in conclusion, well acted, well directed, and not a bad film. Just not a satisfying conclusion to this great series and I wish the screenplay had gone through a few more drafts of revision.
