Review of The Huntsman: Winter's War (2016) by Abi G — 19 Jun 2018
Boring, nonsensical plot about the never before heard of sister of the evil queen that brings us to a cliche Hero's journey in the quest for Ravena's mirror from the previous (slightly superior) movie. Snow White is nowhere to be seen throughout the entirety of the movie, and for that reason we are stuck with two dwarves (and later their obvious love interests), the Huntsman and his long lost love, who provide tons of exposition but almost no chemistry or even the slightest feeling of interest. The movie ends with a boring climax (much similar in feel to the climax of the previous movie).
Overall, it is the overly told narrative of the rivalry between two sisters that ultimately leads to their demise. Maybe a fun movie for a younger audience, ages 13 to 15, the Huntsman fails to deliver the epic adventure it promised, mostly getting stuck with overly cliche love stories and giggly adventures.
The acting, on the other hand, is far better than expected (probably as to not damage the careers of the amazingly talented actors) and can even be tolerable considering the terrible script with which they were provided.
