A film which so desperately wants to be Fargo, it's not funny. Also, it takes almost no initiative to venture from the classic noir standards, with the exception of Oliver Platt's character, which was the best part of the movie.
How this movie is NOT Fargo (money, scam, snow/ice, marking, cops, pancakes) + Double Indemnity (suspense, detection, non-cop involved in heist, femme, etc.)? It gets a full star only for my beloved Oliverand for the pier scene.
You'd think I'd be opposed to the movie because it has some pot-shots at fat girls but no...those didn't bother me. The rest of the movie did.
