Just watched the Invention of Lying. It was enjoyable over all, but had a difficult time trying to balance its bold statements, with its romantic comedy core. I didn't laugh much, and the romance felt tragic as did the rest of the film.
It calls religion a lie, but a necessary one, that offers comfort and hope. Something that gives substance to the concept of "good". Which is where the evolutionary perspective comes in; as without lying and abstract thought, life is pure nature and reason.
"Matter of fact". So I guess he is suggesting a balance. It's an interesting film, that is different and daring, but it poses so many questions that it loses focus. The r.
