Review of The Killer Is Loose (1956) by Trent R — 29 Jun 2009
Budd Boetticher directed this solid B Noir with his trademark economy, clocking in at a sleek 73 minutes. The film is hurt by a paycheck performance from the usually reliable Joseph Cotton. Wendell Corey steals the film as a crazed killer looking to avenge the accidental death of his wife during his capture.
He gives a nuanced performance as a nerdy man who appears almost sympathetic at times and chillingly ruthless when crossed. Alan Hale, Jr. also stars years before finding immortality as the Skipper on "Gilligan's Island.
