Review of The Killing of a Chinese Bookie (1976) by Daryl K — 10 Nov 2012
A slow, dialog-heavy set-up gives 'The Killing of a Chinese Bookie' the feeling that it's building towards something. Then, near the end, the film just kind of peters out. So, typical Cassavetes, in other words -- not that that's an entirely bad thing.
Great performance by Ben Gazzara, and lots of nice individual scenes, but ultimately less than 100% satisfying.
