Review of The King of Staten Island (2020) by Afm185 — 04 Jan 2021
I was pretty surprised by how this good this was. It’s not a masterpiece but it’s a very competent comedy/drama. Genuinely funny and clever at quite a few moments, the lead character is great, as well as most of the side ones, especially loved Bill Burr.
Story wise it’s touching. Nothing particularly interesting or exciting happens but all the beats that Scott needs to follows happen along a somewhat predictable path, and it works well. Main issue I had was that it’s pretty damn long and doesn’t really need to be.
Could very well have skipped a few scenes without any real loss.
