Review of The King's Man (2021) by Compi24 — 11 Jan 2022
Quite honestly one of the biggest letdowns I've seen in a theater in a long, long time. With a concept executed this poorly, I'm not even the least bit surprised this movie's as buried as it's been as of late.
Part farcical exercise in revisionist history, part anti-war drama and part origin story for a franchise featuring scenes where characters' head literally explode into fireworks of gas and goo, to say that this entry in the "Kingsman" franchise has lost the proverbial plot would be an incredible understatement.
This has to have either been a hack job in the editing room or a pre-existing spec script that was converted to a franchise vehicle in the last minute. I refuse to believe this is anything Matthew Vaughn originally intended it to be — he's just that talented of a filmmaker.
For the first time in a while, though, not even his dazzling fight scenes can hoist this movie into the realms of watchability. Completely disappointed.
