Review of The Last Voyage of the Demeter (2023) by Tvjerry — 11 Aug 2023
This thriller (not really) is based on the Captain's log from the titular ship, which carried Dracula to London in Stoker's book. Since we know what's gonna happen, it's up to the filmmakers to add suspense.
Writer/director André Øvredal scored well with his last sci-fi film Mortal (my review) and this one also has a grand cinematic feel. No matter how stately things progress, there is not one single moment when there's a scare.
This film is big on dark atmosphere and malevolent portent, but it moves too slowly and never creates any tension.
