Review of The Leopard (1963) by Steve S — 26 Dec 2010
This is easily one of the most goregous period films ever made, showing every little speck of the glitz and glamour of 1800's regal Italy in every detail. The visual splendor sometimes almost undermines the storytelling to a point where I can't tell if this is a good thing or not.
The final act of the film is one of the most compelling pieces of cinema I've seen in a while, where the Prince says so much about how he is feeling about his life at the time without saying much of anything at all.
For anyone who appreciates 60s-70s Italian cinema, this is the absolute pinnacle of its time.
