Review of The Lighthouse (2019) by Kirkender — 27 Jan 2020
From a film nerd viewpoint, The Lighthouse is an awesome achievement, the performances from Pattinson and Dafoe are outrageously entertaining. Slow, atmospheric, creepy, funny, disorienting, are all perfectly apt descriptions.
Chiaroscuro, the fancy schmancy term for balancing black and white in visuals, is actually in effect for this black and white movie, thank the cinema lords. Technically this film is a masterpiece and the acting is mind bogglingly fun, and thankfully it's shy of 2 hours long so it doesn't get tedious.
I wouldn't recommend for most people though.
