Review of The Limits of Control (2009) by Christopher A — 09 Aug 2014
I can see what Jim Jarmusch and cameraman Christopher Doyle were trying to do in referencing and channeling the great silent and epic film noir of the past where not much needs to happen on screen for the viewer to still be fully engaged but if you can make it past the Tilda Swinton "conversation" with our mysterious and cool protagonist without swearing out loud in rage or giving up and falling asleep instead.
..you probably forgot you were still watching this exercise in pretentious bullshit. I love Jim Jarmusch and his previous films just as much as the critics but this one flopped hard all around for a reason.
..it is overly long at just under 2 hours and highly repetitive with an ending that involves Bill Murray but is nothing more than an afterthought. It is a movie about the movements (or lack there of) that occur in between film moments and momentum involved when telling a story.
It is almost a complete and utter failure outside of the fine cinematography.
