Review of The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001) by Andre F — 13 Oct 2018
The film has not lost any of its specacle over the years, it takes a fantasy genre that has been poorly made for years and turns the genre upside down. The key to the film is the respectfulness Peter Jackson gives to the source material, when a film clocks in at 3 hours, you tend to know the film is true to the fans.
Fellowship is my favourite of all the LOTR films, it has fantasy but doesn't overload you on the war scenes, like the sequels. More films should be made in this same manner, you don't need 10 hour tv shows to be respectful, you can keep the action and drama and wonder.
The film is still relevant and one of the true Hollywood breakthrough films to come out over the last twenty years, it never hits a beat that was not carefully structured. Jackson might have lost a few steps with The Hobbit series, something I'll get to when I'm finished with the extended versions.
If you have not seen the Lord of the Rings, watch the exteneded version and forget the cinematic version as this is the complete restoration. Both are great but the extended is complete and services the fans.
I want more fantasy genre films from Hollywood and a true filmmaker like Jackson at the helm. 14/10/2018.
