Review of The Man from Earth (2007) by Allen D — 19 Jul 2010
Here we have another tale of a movie that was added to the instant queue because I found the description interesting and finally got around to watching it. It's unlikely that anyone's heard of this one so I'll give a short plot summary.
A college professor confides in his closest friends that he's actually a 14,000 year old cave man. That one sentence sums up the entire movie. What we do is spend an hour and a half wondering if he's telling the truth, if his friends believe him, if he's crazy, or if he's just pulling their collective legs.
The movie itself is very well put together, very well acted, and would make a great stage play. What one would most likely expect from a movie like this is gratuitous flashback sequences with epic set pieces and a bunch of bad togas.
Instead, what we get an excellent exchange of the flashy crap for elegance in simplicity. There really isn't much more to say about this movie. There a few faces in the cast that you should recognize.
We've got the older lovable nurse from E.R., the Greatest American Hero, generic black guy from a bunch of sci-movies, Smykowski(You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.
), and that guy that was on a billion different TV shows. They all work well together and only certain parts were a little over the top. So, if it's available to you, watch this movie.
