Review of The Man Who Knew Infinity (2016) by David W — 22 Aug 2016
The movie rushes through the story without ever really developing any of the characters and as a result both the conflict and romantic encounters seem disingenuous/forced. Even the religious influence that is said to be Ramanujan's driving force seems to barely be touched on.
Every struggle seems short-lived and is immediately overcome by a simple fast-forward to the next scene (finding a job, leaving home, racism, war, etc.). The viewers are given bits and pieces of a remarkably predictable mentor/mentee relationship, while everything else seems to go in hyper-speed.
Callbacks to previous scenes try to warm your heart, but just come off as lazy.
