Review of The Marksman (2005) by Justin K — 04 Oct 2007
Oh dear.
I honestly came to this one with an open mind and a simple hope for an action flick to watch with a beer or three but it failed even on this simple level. There were a couple of good scenes and the plot twist was interesting if contrived but the action was all too sparse, the editing poor and the two dimensional characters that nobody could care about or believe (even the leads).
Technically it's not good either: continuity mess ups as guns change model between shots, tactics that group 'elite' soldiers together in an easy-to-kill pattern just to keep them in shot for the camera and as mentioned, they used an F-14 Tomcat as a bomber (which, incidentally, was flown by an Army pilot for no plot related reason) purely so they could borrow footage directly from Top Gun!
I've seen worse but even for a straight to DVD target audience this is weak.
