Review of The Midnight Sky (2020) by Moviesoul — 15 Feb 2021
I have to chime in and write what a great movie this is since there are quite a few mediocre and negative reviews. I can only surmise that the negative reviews are from people who wanted this to be an edge-of-your-seat action thriller.
That it is not - though the movie does have a number of tense moments, and some action as well. What this movie offers is a gripping story faithfully told and brilliantly acted by George Clooney. His performance is Oscar-worthy, and the rest of the cast is superb as well (Felicity Jones, Kyle Chandler, David Oyelowo).
The best comparisons I can make are Ad Astra and Interstellar - if you enjoyed those films you'll like this one. If not, you probably won't. Turns out this film is one of the most watched in Netflix history - so it's been a huge hit - and one of the best films of 2020.
The film and Clooney deserve Oscar consideration.
