This is an almost perfect example of the digital-media-savvy movie making. Its clever writing, wonderfully knowing modern meme appreciation, and sylized art - combined with an almost counter-modern depiction of a progressive family struggling with the post-GFC realism.
There are some truly memorable comedic moments, alongside some true heart-warming pathos. Yet at its heart is a funny road-trip movie. Sony is hitting it out of the park recently with its animated movies.
