Review of The Mountain Between Us (2017) by Dann M — 10 May 2018
What people's problem with this movie I will never know. I have been in the wilderness many times in Northern Minnesota, and Canada. The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, and Quetico Provincial Wilderness area. I also almost died there. If not for extreme luck and knowing how to swim I would died. The water was ice cold. The friends I was with reached me, and pulled me to safety. I will never stop reliving that moment , and will always feel a string connection with my buddies that were there with me.
I don't know what is so hard to believe about this movie, but everything that happened in the wilderness was certainly plausible, and there have many that have survived similar situations. I personally have heard first or second hand accounts of these stories.
When going through hell like that with another person is very easy to get attached. My story did not involve a female that I had an intimate experience with., but I can certainly get what that must be like. What else were they supposed to do in that moment, but try to feel alive any way they could. I certainly understand how these could have fallen in love considering that they have been through together. Not being able stop thinking about that person, and feeling unsafe without them totally makes sense based what I understand about near death experiences. Surviving that with someone else is an attachment that never goes away.
The only thing I did not understand is why after not getting married and also not being to stop thinking about Ben did, Alex not want to accept that the two were in love, or that she loved him at least. I guess it was for dramatic purposes much like Ben not being to leave Alex alone in the cabin. He ran back to her, showing the attachment, much like the two 9f not being able to do the same, and running back to each other at the end. A sort of forshadowing that I did not pick up in till they were walking away.
I really liked this movie. The critics are the critics, but I guess a good majority of the others did not understand and most likely could not relate.
Great movie for me.
