If there was any claim that "The New Mutants" would help restart a new generation of "X-Men", it might be better to discard that result and try again. Not that there are no interesting points that justify this feature alone, without trying to link it to a franchise or sequence of films, nor that the same actors/characters created don't work better with another script.
It turns out that this production is better appreciated without the expectations that superhero films bring. Otherwise, the perception of failure is even greater.
