Review of The Nun (2018) by Paul T — 16 Sep 2018
From that one scene in The Conjuring 2 and the teaser trailer, The Nun was one of my most anticipated movies of 2018. Unfortunately, this did not meet my expectations. ?This franchise has done a great job with the scares by building tension with worthy payoffs.
Simple premise, but effective storytelling with characters I get invested in thanks to some terrific performances. ?So it was really surprising to see The Nun does a really poor job with the suspense.
We already saw the best jump scare in the trailer. The rest are just tropes we?ve seen before. Being ?the darkest chapter?, this also got the most laughs I heard in these films because we have a comedic relief character.
?It wasn?t all bad. I thought Taissa Farmiga was good. I liked the setting. There were a few creepy visuals and a very small amount of tension that worked. ?This is not Annabelle bad, but it is the one I?m most disappointed with.
