Review of The Nun (2018) by Alex D — 12 Jan 2019
Compared to the first conjuring, this movie leaves much to be desired. It seems like the movie's creation is somewhat forced and there was little effort put in to make it worth moviegoer's money and seems like the creates were riding on the fan hype of the nun to sell the movie.
After watching this, I seem to have discovered that there is such a thing as "trying too hard to be scary" to the point that it just seems desperate. There was absolutely no suspense with regards to the characters, this being a prequel of sorts, as they are expected to be fine since the demon did successfully leave the convent eventually otherwise we would not have The conjuring 2 movie. so it seems redundant to root for the characters to succeed knowing that they are doomed to fail making much of their actions and achievements in the movie very anticlimactic.
Jump scares are aplenty throughout the movie and the main antagonist seems more interested in walking around far far far away in the background than actually putting an effort into doing anything as if she knew she was going to have a sequel and the writers would magically make her succeed her diabolical goals.
