Review of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms (2018) by Joseph F — 23 Nov 2018

I don't mind that this movie creates a story that is completely its own. What I do mind is that the filmmakers didn't bother to make a comprehensive universe. I have watched everything from Power Rangers and PAW Patrol to The Wolf of Wall Street to World War Z.

I know how to suspend disbelief. However, it is still important for the universe to set up rules and adhere too them. There were so many plot points and character moments that made no sense. Even when characters attempted to explain things, I was left with more questions.

I also didn't like the central character. The actress was fine. The character was terrible. One of the morals of the story is self-reliance. It was done similarly to the first Kung Fu Panda movie, and the Panda film did it MUCH better.

I could go on and on about the problems of the movie. However, I'll just say that it is basically the cinematic equivalent of jingling expensive keys in front of the audience. Look at the pretty settings and costumes and dancing.

Enjoy the music. Pay no attention to the story because the filmmakers certainly didn't.
