Review of The Old Guard (2020) by Kirkender — 19 Jul 2020
Generic. Boring. Problematic. Lazy. These are just a few thoughts I had from the opening few minutes of this netflix garbage dump. The dialogue is super vague and generic and doesn't tell us anything about the world, the characters, or the plot.
The characters are generic, boring, and just say the same repetitive action movie lines without meaningful context. The visual storytelling is lazy and does not convey any information other than "people gear up to kill other people because they're people who need to be killed.
" The people being killed are all in African and Middle Eastern countries... so yeah. People claiming this film is "woke" are horribly uninformed on what being woke actually means. This is absolute imperialist, fascist, racist garbage.
And that's just the first 25 minutes. I couldn't keep watching. Just awful.
