Review of The Old Man & the Gun (2018) by Andrew P — 24 Jan 2019
The style, pacing, music and acting are all good or great, with Sissy Spacek and Robert Redford being the obvious standouts. A very entertaining movie, David Lowery's The Old Man and the Gun tells an entertaining story of a charming and clever bank robber who, as the personality trait suggests, uses that charm to rob banks and break out of prison many many times.
I think the biggest flaw is the lack of exploration into the dynamics between Spacek and Redford. How does she truly feel about falling in love with a criminal? What are her reasons for forgiving those parts of his life yet being able to forgive him and literally pick off right where they left off? However, I do absolutely love the ending.
He is who he is and he is unabashed about it.
