Review of The Orphanage (2007) by Jason M — 31 Oct 2013
Do not be fooled by the 'Guillermo Del Toro' tag - instead of 'scares and blood', this movie treats fans looking for a smart haunted house trhiller with plot holes and overtly-sappy performances.
By the time the unnecessarily bland final act rolled around my stomach was turning from the sappy score instead of the chills and thrills I had expected. Major letdown. 1/5 One major plot flaw just ruins the movie: if the kid had been down in the cellar, where were the signs that he had discovered the secret door.
.. whether or not there was a knob in the first place, he still would have uncovered the cracks. Pfeh, this isn't even worth debating about, I'm calling it a flop and recommending some better predecessors, like 2001's The Others.
