Review of The Other Side of the Wind (2018) by Dylan D — 08 Nov 2018
This is a masterful film from a master filmmaker, but that does not mean it is for everyone. If it had come out in 1976 it would have been the high water mark of 70's personal film making which Jaws and Star Wars destroyed.
Unfortunately it might be the most removed of all of his movies for the very reason it is great: a dissection and quasi-satire of New Hollywood. Having waited for it all my life, I was not disappointed, but this is not a film for the mass audiences of today's super hero dominated cinema.
Having said this and looking at the releases this year to date, I do believe Welles and Graver should get posthumous awards. John Huston turns an amazing performance that tops Chinatown and should be nominated.
