Review of The Pass (2016) by Duncan B — 12 Dec 2016
I didn't really know what to expect from this film, but was pleasantly surprised.
The Pass becomes quickly engrossing and is centred on the relationship between footballers and their meet-ups over a period of time and while it is homoerotic, this doesn't dominate to the extent of it being cringy or niche.
It has some genuinely outstanding performances with Arinzé Kene being truly captivating, but it's direction that sets this feature apart from the others. It's hugely cinematic despite the limited locations and conversation led drama. Not many directors can pull this off and there are definitely echos of Alfonso Cuarón and James Foley.
From the cast to director, I suspect we will be seeing a lot more from everyone involved.
