Review of The Passion of the Christ (2004) by Jody B — 12 Feb 2018
To sensitive viewers (no judgment) this is a VERY violent movie and right from the beginning. I was surprised at the story structure; its cut around in the timeline a lot so don't think the crucifixion is at the end) but the violence would have been historically accurate for what would have happened (or at least the parts I could see through my fingers as that I was covering my face a lot of the time).
It is painful to watch. There is some humor (ie short breaks from the pain but then you're back in it). They use subtitles which can help you get the sense of it being a different culture but for me I hate missing pieces of the performance because I'm reading (I'm lame, I know, but so much of stories are said in the facial expressions).
Anyhoo, excellent production, costumes and performances.
