Review of The Patriot (2000) by Kevin S — 09 Apr 2013
Benjamin Martin is a farmer and is a former soldier in the continental army. During the revolution while fighting the British his son Gabriel enlists and returns home injured and the red coats come to his house and capture him and his brother Thomas tries to help but gets shot and dies from the vicious and cruel colonel tavington from the redcoats.
Wanting revenge for the death of his son Benjamin recruits a militia and fights back against the British. Mel gibsons performance in this is absolutely brilliant. Along with the lethal weapon movies this is one of my all time favorite movies of his.
Jason issacs performance though to me stole the show. He plays colonel tavington who he works for lord Cornwallis on the redcoats. Issacs is a very convincing villain. His character is so sadistic in this and you want to just go in the movie and just kick the crap out of the guy and issacs plays this role so well and convincingly.
I would be the first guy in line for any of this guys movies were he plays a bad guy because he does it very well and he fit the part for this and did a stunning job. They did a good job to I thought on the setup of this movie.
The whole revolutionary look and the backgrounds and stuff. The way the have the battles and stuff set up. I read a lot of history books of that era and They really gave it a good feel of back then they way they did the battles and plan out were they going and map it all out.
They really did their research when the did this movie. I loved this movie it is really great and it also is a good history lesson as well.
