Review of The Predator (2018) by Thúy Nhi L — 16 Jan 2019

In reading other reviews, it's clear that people expect something like the original. That's NOT what this movie is, and people are missing the true nature of this movie. Shane Black has done something unique; he's grafted a new story that even includes a kid and family on the best style elements of the original epic.

Take the music, the lovable crew, and the deadliness and cold-blooded Predator. These elements are very similar to the original Predator. They are cues and reminders of the original while getting a whole new story. At the same time, he gives us a traditional family action movie with great thrill elements. Black makes the film very watchable and what it was meant to be in the first place, a popcorn flick. The film isn't Fellini or Copala folks, get a grip, it's two hours of fun.

Usually, I'd give this film 3 or 3 1/2 stars, but I'm giving it 4. The style elements brought forward from the original and cleverly melded in the story demand extra credit.

My recommendation. Rent it or buy it cheap and sit down with a good bowl of popcorn, invite the teens in and enjoy. It's worth the time.
