Review of The Princess and the Frog (2009) by Jacob B — 11 Sep 2018
Ah yes, Disney's attempt to return to the roots of 2D animation. It didn't work out sadly. The movie didn't bomb but it performed below Disney's expectations. Probably because traditional animation is viewed as either kids' stuff or tasteless, self-conscious and vulgar just for the sake of it unless it's Japanese.
I want to see traditional animation on the big screen more often but seems like they'll only be successful if they're based off of a cartoon. The songs are good, the animation is colourful, the villain is one of Disney's best non-surprise villains since either Frollo or Hades and he allows for some creative visuals.
The movie also has one of Disney's best female protagonists since Mulan and the voice acting is great. The Princess and the Frog is a loving return to a bygone era.
