Review of The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes (1970) by Matthew B — 08 Aug 2009
At times, this closer look at the life of Sherlock Holmes has the feel of a television show. Rather than providing any insight into Holmes' inner-life, we are presented with awkward situations where he's expected to father a child with a Russian prima ballerina and confront a submarine posing as the Loch Ness monster.
Holmes is a complex character, but none of the intriguing aspects of his personality receive any exploration here. The screen does come alive when Christopher Lee (playing Holmes' brother, Mycroft) enters the scene.
Lee's charisma is always interesting.
